Getting a brick and mortar gallery

Most art galleries are overwhelmed managing the stable of artists that they represent.  Most art dealers that I know routinely go on studio visits based on the recommendation of the artists they represent.  For example, if an artist is a professor in an art school, he/she might recommend their students.  There are however, a large pool of galleries that are looking for new artists. The Art of Sales can help you to create a proposal and submit it with an action plan for follow up.   Our artists can have access to our list of potential galleries. ​

There are many online portals that are excellent, offer curatorial assistance and offer artists 65% of the sale with zero subscription fees.  These sights should be vetted and analyzed before you submit your work for consideration.  We can explore print-on-demand options, which might offer a lower cost of entry to an aspiring collector.  All of these options can be explored to find the right one that works for you.

Art Fairs or Festivals

The enormous variety of art fairs offers many business opportunities for a fee.  Some are juried and require entry fees.  The advantages are access to potential collectors, sales on site and in follow up communications and communication with your peers.   One has to weigh the pro's with the cons when applying and analyzing the costs involved including transportation, lodging, etc.   This can be part of the cost of doing business if it makes reasonable sense.   Applications can be reviewed in our action plan and a profit and loss plan can be implemented to help with decision making. ​

Making sales from your studio
Don't give your work away.  It's natural to have studio visits with friends and family and even more natural to want them to have a piece of your work that they love.  You are doing yourself and them disservice with a preferential discount.  Valuing your work and your achievements is an important part of letting in prosperity and avoiding under earning.   It's ok to implement a friends and family discount across the board as you develop your pricing structure but be prepared so that you budget this into your game plan rather than making a spontaneous decision which may not be in your best interest.

Keep in touch with your collectors
Your collectors are your best advertisement and can introduce you to other buyers, a gallery or foster a great connection that you didn't see coming. An online CRM system is critical to manage your collector's data.  There are many cloud based systems available to manage your contacts, collectors and even your art work inventory.  Some are free of charge and some require a monthly subscription fee.   The Art of Sales can help you find the right fit for your needs.
